In this April breeding value estimation, the time had come: the breeding values were estimated using the new estimation procedure of the single-step method — and therefore brought up to date with the latest state of development. The advantages of the modern estimation method lie in a higher certainty of the breeding values — especially for young genomic bulls — which is accompanied by greater stability of the breeding values.

Consistently in the top ranks

As in the last breeding value estimation, OHG is once again the breeding association that is most frequently represented in the top 10 of daughter-tested bulls with 4 bulls in Germany. The new No. 2 in Germany is MIRCO. After doubling his number of daughters in breeding value, he increased by a whole 7 points to 144 RZG and remains a reliable choice for eye-catching daughters with very good milk production. SIMBA P is also extremely stable at 144 RZG and stays the highest progeny tested polled bull in Germany. He increases by +0.30 % protein and 11 RZE points and is therefore recommended for use.

SUNRISE

SUNRISE — Cows that perform better with every rising sun

The absolute outcross and extraordinary sire SUNRISE (Superfly x Rio) ranks 4th in the RZG top list with a stable 143 RZG. In addition, SUNRISE is the clear No. 1 on the RZ€ top list with 2326 RZ€. Milk kilograms climb to a remarkable +2890 kg and 181 fat+protein kg. Since the last breeding value estimation, more than 100 classifications have been added to his proof and with 132 classified daughters, he has risen by 9 points to 114 RZE. His advantages continue to include high milking robot suitability (116 RZRobot) with a medium teat length (105), good udder health (117 RZS, 108 RZEudderfit) and good milkability (112 RZD). The often mainly black SUNRISE daughters are showing themselves to be extremely good at the monthly auctions and with their high production levels always attract a lot of interest from bidders.

CARUSO also remains in the top 10 (141 RZG). He is followed by the well-known OHG bestseller GENIUS with 139 RZG, whose RZE rises by 4 points to 129 RZE. In the group of bulls with 99% reliability, he ranks second with > 1,500 daughters in Germany and > 800 daughters in France, Italy, Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Other bulls in the black-and-white top list are KENNY (136 RZG), GATES (134 RZG), LINDY (134 RZG), SUSSEX (133 RZG) and METRO (133 RZG, 2222 RZ€).

In the Red Holstein top ten daughterproven, GARY-RED ranks 6th with 138 RZG (+10 points), followed by SOLI-RED P (129 RZG) and SIR-RED (128 RZG) in the top 50.

NEXTLEVEL: The Gamechanger unlocks the Next Level

OHG’s new top bull and currently much sought-after sire of sons is NEXTLEVEL (158 RZG) and comes from the successful combination of the two OHG top bulls NEXO x SUNRISE. His extremely productive dam HMO Kornblume was immediately classified VG-85. His VG-85 granddam is followed by EX-90 Superhero x VG-87 Silver x EX-90 Numero Uno x VG-87 Goldwin Konny and then the foundation cow and former European champion, Batkes Outside Kora EX-94. NEXTLEVEL offers an exceptional sire profile with performance, conformation and fitness that everyone is looking for and yet rarely finds.

He offers an enormous milk yield with +2366 kg milk and 151 Fat+Protein kg and the ideal casein combination of A2A2 and BB. His linear profile also offers breeding value eye candy with 124 for feet & legs with medium rear leg angle (105) and 125 for udder with medium teat length (99). NEXTLEVEL has an outstanding robot suitability that is hard to ignore: 139 RZRobot and thus the clear No.1 robot bull in Germany. In addition to good udder health values (110 RZS and 112 RZudderfit), he also shines with excellent breeding values for hoof health (121 RZClaw and 123 DDcontrol), persistency (118) and feed efficiency (113). The availability of NEXTLEVEL is good, but there may be waiting times.

Another newcomer at OHG is the Strong P son STITCH (155 RZG). Behind his freshly calved Foreman dam is a VG-85 Lavonte x GP-83 Cameron x VG-86 Battlecry x VG-87 Sunkiss x VG-85 Shamrock and another 6 generations back is the foundation cow Snow-N Denises Dellia EX-95. STITCH offers a high production potential with +2056 kg milk with a special focus on protein kg (+70). He is also a fantastic fitness sire with 129 RZhealth, 126 RZS, 117 RZR and 134 RZN. Another eye-catcher is his udder breeding value of 125 with slightly longer teats (106) and high firmly attached udders. The popular conformation sire SKIP (Skater x Migel) gains two points and lands at 154 RZG. He is followed by the No.1 SUNRISE son SURFER with 153 RZG, who is also the highest RZ€ bull at OHG with +2892 RZ€. The No.1 Concept son remains COMET, who keeps his RZG stable at 152 and will soon be available again. MIKE is one of the biggest winners of the switch to the single-step method and is back at 150 RZG (+8).

The homozygous polled SUBITO PP celebrated his debut in the polled segment. With his sire Surfer P (by Brandung P) and maternally very high performing Sorelio P dam x VG-85 Hotspot x VG-85 Mission P x VG-87 Commander and subsequently the Canadian foundation cow Aija Supersire Makea VG-86, the new addition from the Netherlands offers an interesting bloodline and an appealing cow family. His breeding value profile with 143 RZG convinces with a great completeness in all trait complexes and leaves nothing to be desired. In addition to good production values, he offers a very attractive, good conformation profile (120 each for feet & legs and udder) and his health breeding value and calving traits are also in the positive range. He is particularly favorable for births (KVd 112) and therefore very suitable for heifers.

OHG has also an interesting newcomer in the Red Holstein segment with the highest available Redford (by Ranger-Red) son READY-RED (153 RZG). The dam line goes back to Freurehaven Lautella Bolten EX-92 via the immediately VG-85 classified and extremely high producing RR Laura (by Freestyle) x VG-87 Solitair P x VG-85 Styx-Red x VG-86 Commander x VG-87 Uno x VG-86 Snowman x VG-89 Shottle and then to Comestar Laurie Sheik via several VG classified well-known brood cows. With his decent production breeding value, the focus is on fat production with +0.42 % or +108 kg. He also offers an attractive conformation profile (125 RZE) and very good values for all fitness traits. MEGA-RED P, who is still in high demand, keeps his RZG unchanged at 152 RZG and increases his RZE to an appealing 134.
